An elegant expressive premium Gin full of countryside charm
If a gin could capture the taste of summer in a bottle this is it. Early Harvest Gin uses the flowers and berries that are found in the Peak District hills around our distillery. The summer flowers create a delicately crafted and beautifully smooth gin. You’ll smell hints of elderflower, wild bilberries and gorse. You’ll taste berries alongside the fresh, green flavours of bilberry leaf and the familiar pine of juniper. A finish of warming Szechuan pepper rounds off this elegant expression of summer.
This is a story of a group of friends that came together with a shared vision of creating a distillery in a place that they loved. Tamsin, Nick, Sophie, Josie, Tilly, Jan, John, Harmony and Graham have all contributed to the creation of Shivering Mountain. The Pennine Mountains grow out of the Peak District in one of the most beautiful regions in the UK. To live and work with friends on the mountains and down in the valleys surrounded by such a rich history makes Shivering Mountain a special place to be and has helped us create our authentic gins. Shivering Mountain Gin is a community enterprise. They employ local experts, suppliers, and use local botanicals and ingredients wherever possible to create a truly authentic Peak District gin experience. . The distillery itself houses Little John, a hand-crafted copper Holstein still. Its name is inspired by Robin Hood’s lieutenant, who is believed to lie buried in Hathersage Parish Church graveyard.
The Shivering Mountain Distillery sits on a hillside overlooking Hathersage. Lush rhododendron bushes fill our grounds and mark a footpath previously used by Charlotte Brontë as she walked from Highlow Hall down to the Parish Church. The hall became one of Brontë’s inspirations for Thornfield Hall in the classic novel, Jane Eyre
HAND SOURCED & HAND-CRAFTED
Creating a premium gin takes real commitment, time, energy, experimentation and craft. Our ultimate goal is to deliver exceptional gins that capture the essence, authenticity and spirit of the Peak District in a bottle.
ONLY THE PUREST BOTANICALS
Using the best classic gin botanicals and mixed them with local fruits and flowers to create a unique twist on the classic London Dry Gin.
BASE SPIRIT
For the gin base we’ve searched for the highest quality, UK-grown, grain-based alcohol for the still.
FRESH SPRING WATER
The water used comes directly from a natural spring that leaves the hillsides just behind our distillery. This water filters through layers of ancient rock, sand and shale, it is then triple filtered for purity. As it journeys through the landscape it takes on a slight sparkle that translates to a smooth, refreshing gin, which has a distinctive finish and palate sensation.
