Wildeberg Terroirs is an expression of the most exciting vineyard blocks in the wider Coastal Region, in this case from the steep slopes of the Simonsberg.
Ripe yet restrained fruit on the nose with citrus, starfruit and gently leafy notes. A taut, complex palate
of lime-leaf, bay, wild thyme and juicy grapefruit characters. Concentrated and textural on the finish
with purity of fruit and minerality.
The Earth's mantle thrusts up above the gentle town of Franschhoek, a wild slice of untamed mountain on which sits a farm named Wildeberg. An established wine region for some 350 years, sensible generations never thought to plant a vine here until a happy band of idealists recently craned their necks up at this hillside and, dizzy with hope, decided to give it a go. Franschhoek is on the very edge of the south-eastern corner of the Cape's venerable Coastal Region, indeed Wildeberg's property border runs over the top of the mountain where the Coastal Region gives way to the baboon-strewn road to Grabouw and the wider Western Cape.
From older vines that cling to the Simonsberg in the tiny, mountainous ward of Banghoek within
Stellenbosch. Dry grown vines grow thin and weedy on these vertigionous slopes.
The fruit is hand-picked, crushed then naturally fermented at Wildeberg.
Delicious with brightly-flavoured seafood dishes, Thai salads, citrus dressings.
