A meticulously crafted Malbec showcasing the unique terroirs of Mendoza, blending freshness, complexity, and elegance from Altos Las Hormigas’ certified organic vineyards.
Ruby red with violet hues, this wine presents vibrant aromas of fresh red cherries, raspberries, and red plum, complemented by hints of pink pepper and cinnamon. On the palate, it offers a silky texture, balanced acidity, and a long, savoury finish.
Altos Las Hormigas is based in Luján de Cuyo, the first officially recognised appellation in Mendoza and one of the region's premium vine growing areas. The estate is known as a Malbec specialist with a reputation as one of the country's top five producers of this particular variety. Alberto Antonini and fellow Tuscan, Antonio Morescalchi, were so impressed with the vineyards in the area around Mendoza, following their first trip to Argentina in 1995, that they persuaded a few friends to join with them in buying this estate. The estate covers 88 hectares with 56 in production.
Grapes are sourced from two certified organic, high-density vineyard plots in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Limestone-rich soils and deep-rooting vines contribute to the natural freshness and complexity of the fruit. The 2022 vintage, marked by intense heatwaves and timely rains, resulted in fruit with great concentration and delightful spice.
Hand-picked grapes are fermented in concrete tanks using indigenous yeasts at low temperatures to preserve fresh red fruit notes. The wine is aged in concrete pools (75%) and untoasted oak foudres (25%), followed by 6 months in bottle for further refinement.
