From one of the finest Chateau in St Emilion under the careful ownership of a superb winemaker.
The wine boasts an intense nose rich in fruit and spiced notes. The mouth is generous, and the tannic structure bestows the wine with immense ageing potential. Pair with characterful dishes.
Château Trianon has been one of the finest estates in the south-west of the Saint-Emilion appellation since the 16th century. It was bought in 2000 by Dominique Hébrand, at the time co-owner at Cheval Blanc, who raised the quality of these wines immeasurably.
This Saint-Emilion Grand Cru comes from forty-year-old vines that grow on a soil rich in iron, clay, sand and red gravel. 10 hectares grow there, with 80% Merlot and the rest a mix of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère.
After being hand harvested, the grapes are sorted and then vinified in thermoregulated stainless steel or oak vats. The wine is raised in oak barriques (60% new, the rest already used for a previous wine).
Cote de Boeuf
Guide Hachette: 2 stars - remarkable wine
The colour, dark burgundy, is sumptuous. The nose, powerful and deep, is first dominated by woody notes of gingerbread, then intense aromas of ripe fruit appear. Centered on candied fruits and sweet spices, the palate turns out to be devilishly delicious, suave, ample and dense, supported by a beautiful framework of fine tannins which suggests very good development.
James Suckling : 90-91
Very dense heart of fruit and soft tannins. Full-bodied, round and juicy wine. Long finish.
Antonio Galloni : 89-92
An authoritative and bold wine, Trianon 2014 offers considerable potential. Dark colour and aromas of black fruits. Notes of smoke and new leather mark the explosive finish of this wine. The 2014 is a little raw today, but if it concentrates a little more during aging, it will reach the highest level in my ranking.
Wine Spectator : 87-90
Neal Martin : 90
The Château Trianon 2014 has a rather closed nose but with patience, it opens fully in the glass with mineral and refined notes. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins. It is an elegant wine in its production.
