This single estate Nebbiolo has an appealing and early-drinking style
Lightly floral aromas with notes of plum and berry fruit balanced by appealing savoury characters. The palate is juicy with ripe plum and black cherry, supple tannins and a lightly spicy finish.
Il Cascinone was acquired by leading Piemonte producer Araldica in 1999 - an exceptional estate in the Monferrato hills which has undergone extensive restoration and replanting. Now around 70ha of the total 102ha are in full production. All harvesting at Il Cascinone is done by hand. The Araldica winemaking team of Claudio Manera, Lella Burdese and Carlo Manera oversee all production.
The Nebbiolo vines were planted in 2005 on the lower slopes of a south-facing and very steep site at the south-east corner of the 'Soliti' plot - less than 1 hectare in total.
After harvesting, and 15-16 days on the skins, the wine is fermented in stainless steel, followed by up to two years in oak 75% in botti and 25% in old barriques.
Enjoy with steak, roast vegetables and tomato based pasta dishes.
Decanter Platinum and 97 points
A bashful youth exuding subtle notes of plum, cherry, strawberry and baking spice on the nose framed by a crunchy, mouth-coating texture and fine-spun tannins. Stirring and lengthy with a delectable pomegranate acidity which prevails.
