A bright, textural white from bush vines grown on sandy soils over granite bedrock
Ripe peach and tropical fruit on the nose with fresh citrus notes. Honeyed and textured on the palate with crisp acidity and hints of mandarin and lychee leading to a bright, juicy finish.
Wild House is a lifestyle range which reflects a place of raw energy, a weather-beaten hut exposed to the storm-swept slopes of the Cape's mountains. Inspired by the ever-shifting views of the landscape and weather from each aspect of the house, the wines are crafted to reflect the land we call home.
Chenin is the backbone grape varietal of South Africa - it's the most profusely planted variety in the country and is closely associated to their wine-making identity.
Fermenting only in stainless steel ensures the freshness, character and liveliness of the wine is maintained. To tame some of this energy and add more complexity and depth to the final wine, it was kept it on its fine lees for approximately nine months. This also adds to the lush mouthfeel and keeps the wine fresher for longer.
A great wine to enjoy with seafood or poultry
92 points - Tony Brown. "The most rewarding part of our job is to work with wines with the magic combination of appealing drinkability, real character and interest and, of course, a modest price tag. Wild House Chenin is unquestionably one of these and gets better and better with each vintage. Sustainably produced and naturally fermented, it's pretty, vibrant fruit leads into a honeyed, textural palate with lovely balance and freshness. This well-deserved trophy follows a highly recommended rating in a recent Decanter panel tasting of South Africa's signature white grape variety, one of only a handful of wines below £10 to score 91 points or more."
