For those who aren’t sure… what is Chianti all about?
Chianti, without getting too technical, is a renowned red wine hailing from the rolling hills of Tuscany.
At its core, Chianti offers a sensory journey that is as much about its flavour as it is about it’s heritage. Made primarily from Sangiovese grapes, it boasts bright notes of red fruits like cherries and raspberries, often balanced by earthy undertones and hints of garden herbs. Its medium-bodied structure, complemented by the vibrant acidity, makes it incredibly versatile when pairing with food. This wine is a natural companion to Italian classics like pasta with tomato-based sauces, pizza and hearty stews.
Chianti also carries with it a sense of tradition and authenticity. The Chianti Classico region, distinguished by the iconic black rooster on the seal, has stringent regulations to ensure the quality and authenticity of its wines. For many, sipping Chianti is like taking a sip of Tuscany itself - a connection to its rich history, sun-soaked vineyards, and artisanal craftsmanship.
Chianti wines come in different classifications, each indicating a level of aging and quality. Chianti DOCG is the general classification, requiring at least 70% Sangiovese. Chianti Classico, from the historic heart of the region, has stricter rules and a minimum of 80% Sangiovese. Chianti Riserva undergoes extended aging, at least 24 months, resulting in a more complex, structured wine. The highest tier, Chianti Gran Selezione, is exclusively from estate-grown grapes and must age for at least 30 months, offering exceptional depth and refinement. These distinctions help guide drinkers in choosing a Chianti that matches their preference, whether they seek something fresh and fruit-forward or rich and age-worthy.
Beyond the history and classifications, Chianti is approachable and inclusive. It offers a range of options, from affordable bottles to premium selections, ensuring there’s something for every palate and budget. Its wide availability worldwide further cements its reputation as a wine for any occasion.
In essence, people drink Chianti not only for its delightful taste but also for the experience it evokes: a blend of culture, tradition, and culinary harmony. For those seeking to indulge in a true taste of Italy, Chianti remains a timeless choice.

New wine addition from Uggiano…
As a team we tasted a new exciting wine from Uggiano last week and we are predicting this will be a big hit. It’s a Sangiovese Syrah blend which must be one of the best red wine values which we have added into the range for a long time. At only £11.99 a bottle this vibrant blend shows pure fresh red fruits on the nose with redcurrants and morello cherries with warm spicy notes and a hint of oak. Supple, structures and full on the finish. Just delicious!
Pop in and pick up a bottle, tasting is believing.
