Tasting Notes

Intense and aromatic nose of ripe stone fruit, honey, white flowers and candied orange peel. Ample and sweet in the mouth with delicious viscosity. Long and seductive, showing more candied peel notes, honeysuckle and peach characters - with additional notes of hay, tarragon and apricot. Clean and fresh acidity on the finish.

Producer details

The Bodega de Sarria lies on a large and beautiful estate in the hills above Puenta la Reina, near Pamplona. Vineyards cover 210 hectares, mainly south facing slopes at 400-500m altitude, planted mainly with Tempranillo, Graciano (the most extensive plantings of the variety in Spain), Garnacha, Cabernet, Merlot, Mazuelo and Chardonnay. Founded in 1953, Sarria was one of the pioneers of quality winemaking in Navarra but standards slipped until the current owners, the bank of Navarra, put a huge investment programme in place in 2001. Mature vineyards are being revitalised, new vineyards planted and the cellars have been totally overhauled. The range excels in all areas - the fresh, unoaked 'entry level' trio, complex and spicy Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva and the outstanding, strikingly modern single vineyard Vinedo selection.

In the vineyard

This sweet wine is made from moscatel grapes sourced from 110ha of vineyard located in the Ribera Baja region of Southern Navarra. The average age of the vines is 8 years.

In the winery

After crushing, the grapes undergo a low-pressure pressing process to obtain the free-run juice. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, and is stopped with the addition of grape spirit.
