Tasting Notes

Pure and powerful, yet elegant and aromatic, this is a deeply compelling Malbec. It exhibits beautiful bright violet aroms, ripe black fruits and hints of iodine. Plum and cherry fruit aromas combine with leather and spice notes and hints of violets. The rich plum, cherry, sweet spice, liquorice and violet aromas on the nose are reflected on the palate, along with layers of mineral, fruit and savoury notes, with balanced acidity to deliver a long finish. Very moreish! Absolutely singing ‘of place’.

There’s something very special going on down a dusty track in one of the farther-flung out posts of Mendoza. A winemaker for years (‘for other people...’ as he puts it), Walter Bressia has spent decades quietly accruing relationships with growers and has emerged with an eclectic portfolio from six sites that, he believes, represents the very best of the region. Walter Bressia and son Walter Jnr, are crafting their own very compelling expressions of the region and these are intensely personal wines. There’s a kind of secrecy to their source, you can visit the vineyards and they are indeed impressive, gnarly old things, beautifully tended, but there is alchemy back at the bodega. Walter’s fabulous finds have been spun into wines of depth and character. Production isn't huge but the quality and personality of the wines are.

In the vineyard

The vineyard is 3,083 feet above sea level, and the grapes are grown on 25 year old vines in the Lujan de Cuyo district of Mendoza, close to Walter’s bodega in the rain shadow of the Cordon del Plata. Grapes were harvested by hand. Walter Bressia's aim was to produce wine that reflects the true essence of his unique terroir, and this is a blend of 5 different parcels of grapes.

In the winery

Fermentation took place between 25-27°C. 80% of the blend is aged for 18 months in French and American oak. There was no filtration and no fining.
