Tasting Notes

Beautifully developed Rioja with dark fruit, herbal aromas and toasty oak notes. The finish is long and persistent, with the structure and elegance the wines of Ontañón are noted for.

Producer details

Raquel, Ruben and Maria Pérez Cuevas are part of the 3rd generation of the Cuevas family to make wine in Rioja Baja. Their father, Gabriel, inherited parcels of vineyards just outside the town of Quel on the higher slopes of the Sierra de Yerga mountain range. He was determined to produce wine that embodied the region, where he believed some of the highest quality wines from Rioja are made, and soon acquired more vineyard in the area.

In the vineyard

The Tempranillo and Graciano grapes are sourced from La Pasada Vineyard, at 700-800m altitude, on the slopes of the Sierra Yerga Mountains of Rioja Baja.

In the winery

The wine spends 36 months in a mixture of American and French oak, and 24 months in bottle prior to release.

Serve with roast meat dishes, or simply with fine ham and cheeses.
