Multi-award winning stunner of a sparkling wine from Henners in East Sussex.
Sour dough aromas combine with crunchy green apple fruit to provide a wonderfully welcoming nose. The palate is fine with a lively and persistent mousse. Green apple and pear fruit characters mix with a toasted brioche leesy flavour helping to provide a complex and more-ish palate. Balanced acidity and a long finish make this a very classy sparkling wine.
Owned and run by Lawrence Warr, Henners is the result of a long term dream to produce the finest English Sparkling Wine. Lawrence started his career as an automotive engineer in the exciting world of Formula One. Having left Formula One, to set up an engineering consultancy, the search for the perfect vineyard site began. The search was a lengthy and dedicated one - as the ideal combination of soils, aspect, slope, altitude and microclimate was difficult to find. After two years he found the site at Herstmonceux, East Sussex. The vineyard was planted in May 2007, with the winery following in 2009.
The 4ha (sandstone soil) vineyard, just 4 miles from the sea and 24m above sea level, is planted with 40% Chardonnay, 38% Pinot Noir and 22% Pinot Meunier.
The Henners name derives from Lawrence’s French ancestry. Henners Dubois was forced to flee Paris during the French Revolution, in the late 18th century.
The 4 hectares of vineyards are south-facing with sandstone soils, three miles from the sea. At just 24m above sea level - vineyards were first planted at this site in 2007. Harvest usually takes place in late September.
This wine will have spent over 36 months on lees at time of release, and a minimum of 5 months in cellar post-disgorgement. Dosage of 7g/l.
An elegant aperitif wine - or fantastic accompaniment to celebrations.
