Tasting Notes

It has quite an elegant understated bouquet with autumn leaves infusing the black fruit profile, later tobacco and cigar box. Good vigour and class. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity on the entry. It is underpinned by good structure, with plenty of red and black fruit and an engaging delineated finish brimming with energy. There is some high quality terroir and fruit here.

Producer details

This wine comes from the vineyards of the well-known property of Château Latour-Martillac, owned by the Kressman family. Here the vineyards lies on the complex soils of gravel, limestone and clay which characterise Pessac-Léognan. This wine shows all the splendid ripeness of the great 2009 vintage, with an appealing freshness too. The terroir of Pessac-Leognan betrays its historical origins as part of the Graves sub-region, with the dominant soil type being the gravel (and sand) which gave Graves its name. The northern vineyards of the appellation are intermingled with the southern fringes of Bordeaux city, while those in the south are surrounded by the forests which produce the other main export of Graves: timber. While orchards and fields dominate the landscape of the Entre-Deux-Mers region just across the Garonne river, pine forests and residential settlements are predominant in Pessac-Leognan.

In the vineyard

From the southern quarter of the famed Graves region of Pessac-Leognan comes this very elegant production of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend, with a touch of Malbec.

In the winery

The vines are hand-picked with traditional vinification in oak barrels (20% new) from 25 year old vines, this wines expresses all the elegance and balance of a classic Grave wine and this 2010 vintage will drink now or improve until 2020.
