This is a delicious wine from Lynch Bages, with powerful but seductive soft black plum, black cherry and bramble. There's plenty of complexity too with baking spice, chocolate, licorice and earthy, leathery notes. Rich and opulent, with menthol and graphite hints in the background on the finish.

Located at the gates of Pauillac, Château Lynch-Bages is an estate that has left its mark on the history of the Médoc. Although the terroir of Bages has been known since the 16th century, it was not until the 18th century that it gained renown.

The story behind the name…

On Mount Olympus… According to Greek mythology, Zeus - a sometimes fickle husband - entrusted the nymph Echo with distracting his wife Hera by engaging her in endless chatter when he wished to tarry with some beautiful mortal. Hera, on discovering this little game, pronounced sentence on the nymph with the following words: “You will never be the first to speak, but you will always have the last wordâ€. Echo's life had changed forever, but that is another story…

Back in Bordeaux… Château Haut-Bages Averous is a property in Pauillac, acquired some time ago by André Cazes. For over 30 years, it was Lynch-Bages' second wine. In 2008, a new identity was given to the second wine, under the name “Echo de Lynch-Bagesâ€.

Echo de Lynch-Bages displays savoury aromas of fresh red fruits. Round, mellow and seductive in its youth, its ability to age is outstanding.

Château Lynch-Bages is a Pauillac wine produced from a 105-hectare vineyard planted with Garonne gravel. The vineyard is divided into plots using satellite technology to preserve the estate's genetic heritage. The homogeneous geology of the terroir ensures a good water supply for the vines in an area with a moderate climate.

Hand-picked, sorted in the vineyard and on a table. The wine is aged for 14 months in new barrels and in one-wine barrels. The final blend is comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon (64%), Merlot (31%) and Cabernet Franc (5%).

Best served with all types of classic meat dishes, and also pairs wonderfully with mature hard cheeses such as Comté.
