Retail superstar

Rupert joined the team in Autumn 2021 after long stints working in sales, hospitality and personal training. Leaving the weights behind he’s now here to help you lift a glass (or two).

Obsessed with food, he’s happiest sampling the culinary delights of Derbyshire’s pubs and restaurants. Whether it’s a 10 course tasting menu or a mid-week take away, he’s always got a wine pairing up his sleeve.

Several family holidays have forged a real passion for all things Italian so if you need to find him in a hurry he’s most likely lurking by the Italy section in the shop.

What Rupert's drinking...

It’s a tough call, having to pick out one wine in particular! Choosing a favourite is a moving target and it usually changes each week. I like to be prepared for any occasion, so having a few versatile bottles to hand is always important and these invariably end up being from Italy.

A wine that I always find myself going back to is the Torre del Falasco Corvina. Super easy drinking but with great depth from the partial drying of the grapes, this wine stands up to food perfectly and likewise, drinks beautifully on its own. Like a lighter bodied, baby Amarone, the Corvina is full of juicy red fruit and for the price it’s a no brainer. Salute!!
