New Zealand Wine Web link up!

A night to remember, Hattersley wines had their first tasting via Video link, with Cairn Coghill the red wine maker from Sileni Estates Winery direct from Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.
A representative and wine maker, Leanne from Sileni and Sarah from Hattersley wines organised and set up this innovative evening.
We started with a glass of the vibrantly fresh Sauvignon Blanc to loosen the palate. Moving upstairs the Pinot Gris was poured, textured beautifully, pears and peaches on the nose continuing through the mouth feel.
Moving on to the star of the show (in my estimation), The Lodge Chardonnay; rich well-balanced fruit and oak giving splendidly long buttery aromatics, quite the norm for a Puligny-Montrachet, this was fab.
So time to wake up Cairn, 7.00am NZ time. A very enthusiastic wine maker talked us through the Cellar Selection Pinot Noir, light elegant and soft, easy as you like. On to the Plateau Pinot Noir- we are talking as good as Burgundy again, terrific extraction from a cool climate Pinot with the integration of oak so well done it is unnoticeable.
Two other wines both Sileni Estates Cellar Selection, Syrah and their Merlot, both rich in full fruit and both an absolute eye opener to anyone not sure of New Zealand being able to produce such opulent fruit from cool climate vineyards.
All in all a great night and a first “wine by Video link” tasting. Watch out for the next!!!
