This weekend we have a some Italian gems open to taste...

This week it's an all Italian affair and we're showcasing some brilliant wines at unbeatable value! Soave is still such a hidden gem, with wines of this quality produced in other areas fetching significantly higher prices, and Merlot isn't necessarily a grape you'd associate with Italy but once you try it, you'll be amazed!

Nieto Don Nicanor Soliti Merlot

A Merlot from the hills of Piemonte which is exceptional quality and value.

The Merlot grapes are grown in a single block of just 2.5Ha, planted in 2000 on south/south-west facing slopes to encourage ripening. Cool nights on the hillside vineyards also encourages the development of fruit characters in the finished wine.

Plum, blackberry and savoury spice characters linger on the nose. The wine is full flavoured with layers of black fruit and toasty spice back by firm, ripe tannins, dark chocolate notes and a fresh finish....more

This is great with rich, tomato sauces. It'll pair fantastically with this easy One pan Italian Chicken

Terre di Monteforte Soave Classico
Bordeaux Private Reserve by Salin

A bright, lively classic Soave from the Volcanic soils of Monteforte d'Alpone

The Cantina di Monteforte co-op is situated in the eastern part of Soave classico, with vines on the hills facing south and south-east, giving the wine riper and fuller flavours than most others produced in Soave. Cool summer breezes blowing down the Alpone Valley from the foothills of Dolomites to the north give warm days and cool nights, helping the accumulation of aromatic characters in the grapes.

Light, clean and bright with a lovely floral nose and notes of ripe peach and almond. Excellent depth and a lovely balance between ripe, aromatic fruit and fresh zingy acidity...more

Beautiful with fresh seafood pasta! Try alongside this Spaghetti vongole
