With a little bit of planning and a few easy simple steps you will never be buying mulled wine by the bottle again.

There is nothing better this time of year that heating up from the cold with a nice glass of mulled wine! The smell alone makes you think Christmas. 

We get asked alot for Mulled Wine by the bottle and although we probably could sell it (and a lot of it for that matter), we don't... as we just haven't found one as good as any we could make ourselves. 

That's not us being big headed - it is just so simple to make a cracking mulled wine there is no need to buy bad mulled wine.

So here goes a tried and tested receipe from Aitch's Wine Bar Days! 

Makes 12 glasses.

  • Take 1 large orange, stud with 16 cloves.
  • Bake in a large Roasting Tray with a base covering of sugar (preferably brown). Top with a couple of cinnamon sticks whole.
  • When the oranges are glazed dark brown, the sugars will start to caramelise and the cloves will start to ooze out of the oranges and flavour the sugar along with the cinnamon.
  • Chop the oranges into squares on the sugar in the roasting tin, as not to lose any fruit juices.
  • Using a large (10litre pre-heated saucepan pour the contents of the tray into the pan followed by 2 bottles of light red wines and simmer.
  • Heavy red wines will cause bitterness when reduced.

Note: If re-heating the following day, ensure the taste is not too bitter. Add some sugar and possibly white wine.
